ARSENAL MUST PROVIDE GUARD OF HONOR FOR RVP AND HIS GOONS

A guard of honour is a ceremonial event practice in sports as a mark of respect after winning a competition. There's been a debate going on about whether Arsenal will form the guard honor for the new champions of England or not

In 1991, with Arsenal having won the league because of Liverpool’s 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, the United players gave the champions Arsenal a guard of honour onto the Highbury pitch also in in the 2004–05 season, Manchester United performed one for the league winners Chelsea. Manchester United now have the opportunity to be applauded by the two giants of London before the season runs out.

From an Arsenal point of view, the issue will be complicated by the presence of Robin Van Persie given the animosity from some Gunners supporters to the £24million departure of their former captain to United, where he has gone on to score 28 goals. Nevertheless, Press Association Sport understands Arsenal will proceed with the plans to mark United's achievements.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had been reluctant to discuss the issue ahead of their Premier League game at Fulham. "Manchester United have won the title. Do they win it here or somewhere else? It is done".

Here in Sportunes we believe in spirit of fair play, If united had enough class to applaud Arsenal 22 years ago, then the gesture should be reciprocated.

Premier League - Van Persie fires Manchester United to 20th title

Robin Van Persie celebrates winning his first Premier League title with Manchester United (reuters)

Robin van Persie scored a first-half hat-trick as Manchester United demolished Aston Villa to win their 20th league title with four matches left. The Dutchman opened the scoring after 90 seconds before netting a superb over-the-shoulder volley 11 minutes later.

The summer signing from Arsenal fired home a third just after the half-hour mark to move on to 24 goals for the Premier League season, with only Luis Suarez (23) in close attendance. That means Van Persie is likely to win the Golden Boot ahead of the Liverpool striker, who is likely to be suspended for at least three matches after admitting biting an opponent.

Luis Suarez’s Anfield biting controversy may have lost him a few outraged followers on Twitter but thanks to his latest mis-step the Uruguayan can now count one notorious celebrity gnasher among his tweeting hordes.
Former world heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson started following the Liverpool striker immediately after he appeared to sink his teeth into Branislav Ivanovic’s arm during the Reds’ 2-2 draw with Chelsea today.

TENNIS- Nadal 'should have higher seeding to avoid Djokovic quarter-final'

Rafael Nadal should have a higher French Open seeding to avoid a potential quarter-final with Novak Djokovic, says Roland Garros committee member Guy Forget.

Nadal, the defending French Open champion, has slipped to fifth in the world rankings after missing seven months of competition with a knee injury, and could be drawn in the same section as world number one Djokovic at next month's claycourt Grand Slam.

"Since we can see them meeting in the finals of the biggest events in the next weeks, it would be a shame to have them in a quarter-final in Roland Garros," Forget told Reuters in Monte Carlo on Sunday, where Djokovic ended Nadal's eight-year reign as champion with a 6-2 7-6 victory.
"The rules state the Grand Slam events have the right to change the seeding regarding the situation of the players. Wimbledon have done that in the past," Forget added.
"I would not find it illogical to change the seeds."
Nadal trails world number four David Ferrer in the ATP standings, and has few chances to bridge the points gap before the French Open begins on May 26.

Nadal, who will seek an eighth crown in Paris, won in Barcelona and the Rome Masters Series last season, meaning he cannot accrue additional ranking points in those events over the coming weeks. He can secure only 910 points in Madrid, where he lost in the last 16 in 2012.

San Antonio trailed only once - at 2-0 - and took a 70-57 lead entering the fourth

BASKETBALL: Kobe Buys Lakers Laptops For Making the Playoffs

Kobe Bryant made a guarantee to the media, his teammates, and the organization. That guarantee throughout the Lakers regular season struggles was ‘don’t worry, we’ll make the playoffs’. Skeptics thought there was no way in hell the Lakers would make the playoffs in the tight Western Conference, but the team played great down the stretch and pulled out the 7th seed in the West.

As a somewhat expensive ‘thank you not’, Kobe Bryant bought each and every one of his teammates a Lenova laptop before their road trip to start the playoffs in San Antonio this weekend. Here are a couple pictures of players receiving their present.

11 THINGS WORSE THAN BITING YOUR OPPONENT

Luis Suarez's bite on Branislav Ivanovic has outraged the football world, with many observers calling on Liverpool to offload their disgraced striker.  Now, we're not saying it's OK or anything, but let's get a sense of perspective shall we?
Suarez could have done any of the following which are definitely (maybe) much, much (slightly) worse:

Luis Suarez bites Branislav Ivanovic, the second time he’s bitten an opponent during a match.

Fresh off being named to the shortlist for PFA Player of the Year, Luis Suarez continued his history of bizarre and vicious in-game violence during Liverpool's match against Chelsea on Sunday by biting Branislav Ivanovic on the arm like a giant, rabid zombie squirrel. Suarez conceded a penalty and earned a yellow card for a handball in the box in the 56th minute, which allowed Eden Hazard to score a go-ahead goal for Chelsea.

Football: Bale brilliance boosts Spurs' top-four hopes & leaves United on verge of title,Suarez goes from zero to hero to ruin Rafa's return.

Tottenham came from behind to beat Manchester City thanks to three quick-fire goals from Clint Dempsey, Jermain Defoe and Gareth Bale which all but ends the reigning Premier League champion’s hopes of retaining their crown.

The away side took a fifth-minute lead through Samir Nasri, converting James Milner’s low cross, and enjoyed superiority over Spurs for much of the opening hour of the match. Despite appearing to be in control, however, City allowed Dempsey to tap home Bale's cross with fifteen minutes remaining, before Defoe and Bale scored in quick succession to give Tottenham a vital win in the race for the top four.

TENNIS - DJOKOVIC ENDS NADAL'S REIGN IN MONTE CARLO

                  1

Serbia's world number one claimed a double break as he cruised into a 5-0 lead in the opening stanza of a rain-affected final, although Nadal did break back late in the set.
The second set was closer, although Djokovic dominated the tie-break to end a 46-match winning run at the clay-court event for former world number one Nadal, who had won the last eight tournaments here.

Sportunes Humor

A husband was engrossed in a magazine while his wife was reading the newspaper. Suddenly, she burst out laughing. "Get this," she said. "Some guy put an ad in here offering to swap his wife for a season ticket to the stadium." "Hmmmmm," her husband mumbled, still engrossed in his magazine. Wanting to test him, she asked, "Would you swap me for a season ticket?" "Absolutely not!" he said. "That's so sweet," she replied. "Tell me why not." "Heck, the season's more than half over!" he said.

FOOTBALL: ARSENAL UP TO THIRD WHILE BOTTOM THREE LOSE.

Arsenal moved back up to third place in the Barclays Premier League after a narrow victory against Fulham, while the clubs occupying the bottom three places in the English top flight all lost.

Arsenal remain on course for a UEFA Champions League place after overcoming Fulhamat Craven Cottage but they struggled to impose themselves on Martin Jol’s side despite the 12th-minute dismissal of Steven Sidwell for a foul on Mikel Arteta.
