Dilma Rousseff expects Brazil to host a 'great' World Cup in 2014

Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff has defended the government's spending on facilities for next year's World Cup.

Around 1 million people have been taking part in protests in the country during the Confederations Cup tournament, which is currently taking place as a rehearsal for the World Cup.

In a statement, the president said:

"With regard to the World Cup, I want to clarify that the federal money spent on the stadiums is in the form of financing that will be duly repaid by the companies and governments that are exploiting these stadiums."

Tyson Gay overcame Olympic bronze medallist Justin Gatlin's quicker start and sped to the year's fastest 100 metres, clocking 9.75 seconds at the US trials for the world championships.

Fully fit for the first time in years, Gay took control mid-race with a dominant run to equal the 10th fastest 100m of all time. Gatlin finished second in 9.89 seconds in the race at Des Moines, Iowa.

Beyoncé took to Facebook today to congratulate LeBron James on winning back-to-back NBA championships.

How are these two connected?

Beyoncé is married to Jay-Z. Jay-Z made an album with Kanye. Kanye had a lyric on the original draft of "Black Skinheads" where he referred to LeBron as his "homey."

... Or they are just both really famous.


Either way, Beyoncé put "BOW DOWN" over a picture of LeBron as a toddler by way of congratulations:

But the Liverpool winger’s message plunged him in hot water because he posted it a week early.

The 18-year-old England winger took to Twitter yesterday to send birthday greetings to Melody Rose.

However Melody’s mum, Melissa Clarke, quickly shot back informing Sterling he had got her birthday wrong.

The FIA tribunal has come to a close in Paris today with Mercedes being “reprimanded” and banned from the young driver test.

Pirelli have also received a reprimand.

The FIA said that Mercedes has been found guilty for a breach of regulations and as a punishment will miss the 3 day young driver test.

Violent clashes continue to mar the Confederations Cup as more than a million Brazilians took to the streets of at least 80 towns and cities on Thursday night.

The eight team tournament could be abandoned because of the protests which have swept Brazil, local media said today.

CBN radio and the website of the Estado de Sao Paulo newspaper, both respected, mainstream media, carried reports that the eight-team tournament, considered a dry run for next year's World Cup, was in danger.
