La Liga BBVA Review Season 2013/2014, Episode 1

The Spanish La Liga kicked off this weekend with not too many surprising results. Both Spanish powerhouses registered wins although Madrid's was laboured and Barcelona's was irritatingly easy.

BARCELONA 7 LEVANTE 0

Lionel Messi - FC Barcelona v Levante UD - La Liga

Barce picked off where they left it last season with a resounding display at the Camp Nou. Alexis Sanchez opened scoring in the second minute and was followed up by goals from Leo Messi 12, 42, Daniel Alves 23, Pedro 26,72 and and Xavi Hernandez on 45 mins. It was an impressive display from Tata Martino's side and a complete 90 minutes dominance from the Catalans. Levante however were terrible and defending like that surely deserves a mauling.Hector Rodas had a match to forget and they must perform better to avoid relegation.

Where does Okagbare go from here?

Blessing Okagbare wins Nigeria's first medal in 14 years
Its now official Blessing Okagbare is the only athlete in the country that can bless Nigeria with a medal in a world major international event, actually not a medal but two.. According to Wikipedia, Nigeria's population is approximately 170 million which makes the 'Giant of Africa' the most populous country in Africa and ranks 7th in the world. Out of this populace we have millions of supposed to be athletes that train their hearts out everyday, if you go to the National Stadium Surulere on a Saturday morning, you will think the Olympics is just about to kick off there. Unilag sports centre is not exempted, people troop in and troop in and one wonders if the Redeem camp has shifted base to the 'university of choice'... But after all the merry go round, gallivanting, there is only 1 athlete that matters in the Federal Republic of Nigeria and that's Blessing Okagbare.

Bundesliga Season 2013/2014 review Episode 2

BORUSSIA DORTMUND 2 1  EINTRACHT BRAUNSCHWEIG

Goals from substitutes Jonas Hoffmann and Marco Reus in the second half were enough to give Borussia Dortmund a 2-1 win over Eintracht Braunschweig at Signal Iduna Park on Sunday.

With the game deadlocked for 72 minutes, Jonas Hoffman was brought on to raise the tempo of the game and the 22 year old did just that as he scored his first goal in Borussia colors. He went on to win an 85th minute penalty which Marco Reus coolly converted to take a 2 - 0 lead. Despite Kevin Kratz's late goal for Braunschweig, Borussia Dortmund were not to be denied the hard fought victory.

They are one of five teams to have won their first two Bundesliga games. Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich, Mainz 05 and Werder Bremen are the others, with Dortmund topping the table on goal difference.

Barclays Premier League Review Season 2013/2014, Episode 1

Arsenal 1 3 Aston Villa

An Arsenal fan tells Arsene Wenger to open his wallet (Reuters)

Arsenal had a worst possible start to the 2013/2014 premier league season as they lost 3-1 at home to Aston Villa. It was a show of shame from the gunners, they find themselves 17th on the table after starting the day in first place by virtue of order of Alphabets. Arsene Wenger having parted ways with fourteen players over the summer and bringing in just one Yaya Sanogo might just be the loneliest man in the managerial world right now. The French boss has only 12 fit outfield players with 10 players on the treatment table. Aaron Ramsey, Tomas Rosicky, Alex Chamberlain, Bacary Sagna, Kierran Gibbs, Mikel Arteta, Ryo Miyaichi, Nacho Monreal. Thomas Vermalaen, Abou Diaby all facing spells on the side lines. With laurent Koscielney receiving a red card, the gunners will take only 2 defenders to Craven Cottage when they face Fulham next weekend.

Victoria Azarenka dismisses Serena Williams as she rallies for Cincinnati title

Western & Southern Open - Day Eight

Serena Williams wilted in the Ohio heat Sunday night at the final of the Western & Southern Open.

She dominated the first set, then fell apart, giving No. 2 Victoria Azarenka a chance to rally for a 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (6) win that ended Williams' 14-match winning streak. It was reminiscent of their finals match at the U.S. Open last year, when Williams took the last four games to win 6-2, 2-6, 7-5.
