Alex Ferguson's first United team sheet up for auction

History: Sir Alex Ferguson's first Manchester United team-sheet is being auctioned
Sir Alex Ferguson's first-ever Manchester United team sheet is going under the hammer to the highest bidder.

Written by Ferguson's own hand before a 2-0 loss to Oxford United, the team sheet is expected to sell for around £2500 by the auction house in Wiltshire where it will be sold.

The eleven players donning the red shirts, white shorts and black socks on November 8, 1986, were no where as famous as the stars on his final team sheet for the 5-5 thriller away at Hawthorns.

None of Ferguson's famous early signings or youth graduates, like paul Scholes, Peter Schmeichel or Ryan Giggs, were yet at Old Trafford.

Paul McGrath is arguably the most famous of the XI, along with the likes of Frank Stapleton and Kevin Moran. Some lesser-known, or perhaps lesser-remembered players include Chris Turner and Peter Barnes.
