Ethiopian Police Arrest FIVE Suspects In Connection To Suicide Attack Attempt Against The Super Eagles
Sportunes has just received a very dreadful story concerning the suicide bombing attack before Nigeria's world cup qualifiers against Ethiopia back in October.. According to Reuters, Ethiopian police have arrested five more people suspected of plotting the attack, security officials said yesterday.
Lionel Messi as we know him is that kind of footballer that doesn't give a hoot about what goes on off the pitch, the world footballer of the year just lets his football do the talking when he's with the round leather ball.
Last week, Barcelona Vice-president Javier Faus drew attention to the Argentine forward, stating in a radio interview that "there is no reason" to hand the player a new contract, in response to continued reports since the summer that provisional talks on a renewal were on track.
England and Chelsea left back Ashley Cole will do anything to have fun! The 33 year old who is known as a sly guy by fans of his former club Arsenal was spotted attending the Christmas party organised by the north London club.
Cole, who crossed the forbidden divide when he moved to the Bridge in 2006 in acrimonious circumstances, appeared to be in merry mood as he partied with his former goons.

EUROPEAN LEAGUE ROUNDUP: UNITED AND MOURINHO LOSE AGAIN, BAYERN BAG SEVEN AND ENYEAMA 'S STREAK ENDS
The Weekend fixtures across Europe brought many surprises while there were some predictable and somewhat irritating results recorded. Before i delve in, i just want to touch on the World Cup draws done on Friday and congratulate Stephen Keshi on being drawn in one of the relatively easier groups. I expect Argentina to beat us but i reckon we can record decent results against Iran and Bosnia ( even with Dzeko in tow) but it is imperative we win and score as many goals as possible against Iran. As for our Ghanian brothers, c'est la vie!!! A comprehensive look at all the groups will be published soon so watch this space or rather blog. Back to league football, Arsenal entertained high flying Everton, United welcomed Newcastle and in Germany Borussia Dortmund welcomed Bayer Leverkusen.

On 23rd of February 2013, the footbaling world was thrown into confusion when Samuel Sodje was caught repeatedly hitting Oldham Athletic's Jose Baxter in the crotch. For no apparent reason, he continued hitting the 21 year old until the Referee dismissed him.. That was one of the most bizarre redcards in football history!

English Premier League Set To Honour Mandela In Style, As Ronaldo, Robin Van Persie, Wilshere Pay Tribute To The Fallen Soldier
Yesterday, the world said goodbye to a man who is highly regarded as the most influential African ever, as former president of South Africa Nelson Mandela breathed his last. As a form of respect, The English Premier League have concluded plans to pay tribute to the fallen soldier as there will be a minute's applause ahead of all of this weekend's Premier League fixtures.
The draws of the Brazil 2014 FIFA Worldcup have been made, all 32 countries that will be participating have now known their fate. When the pots came out on Tuesday, we Nigerians were weary of a potential group of Death... But as fate would have it, that 'curse' has been placed on Ghana as the Black stars must go through Germany, Portugal and USA if they want progress to the second round of the greatest football tournament in the world.
Manchester United ever present defender Rio Ferdinand has openly condemned his manager David Moyes's managerial approach of naming team line-ups at the last possible minute.
Ferdinand simply doesn't like that tactic and he wants Moyes to tear a leaf from Fergie's book whereby a player is informed well before hand whether he is going to be part of the next fixture or not, as its saves you from mental stress and psychological imbalance.
Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul and his manager Alan Pardew have completed a double scoop for their club by winning the Barclays monthly awards for November.
Krul wins the award for a series of fine performances between the posts for Newcastle, whom he helped complete four successive victories, including two clean sheets against Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, during that winning sequence.

Following Luis Suarez's demolition of Norwich City yesterday night, The Canaries striker Anthony Pilkington has turned to Twitter to give his post match thoughts on the Liverpool man's individual brilliance;
We'v talked about alot of crazy bets here, but this is the first time we are seeing a fan actually fulfilling his promise. A diehard Nicklas Bendtner hater named Mitch Jordan for some odd reason, promised to ‘toothpaste Mum’s eyebrows whilst she’s asleep’ if the Arsenal striker were to score.
Well, Bendtner scored and the young kid fulfilled his promise. What we are not sure is if the boy woke up in good condition today.. Because if this is tried on a typical Nigerian mother, there might be bloodshed..lol

Stardom recognises Stardom! NBA superstar Lebron James paid tribute to Hip Hop star Jay Z who marked his 44th birthday today. Lebron who has developed a very cool relationship with Jigga over the years gave a shoutout to the birthday boy on instagram where they were both seen cheering on some fine expensive glasses of wine. The Miami Heat ace captioned the photo :'HBD to my Big Homie! I've learned alot from u by just watching the way you move, conduct yourself and business ventures. You've set one of the standards that I follow on what it means to be a true ICON! Couldn't thank you enough. Love #LaFamilia#YoungHov #TheGOAT'
Somebody should please call Emmanuel Frimpong to order, just days after mocking close to two hundred million Nigerians on instagram (HERE), The Arsenal and Ghanaian midfielder once again took to the social network to castigate Manchester United coach David Moyes.
For an unknown reason the London based policeman pulled over Arsenal full-back Carl Jenkinson this afternoon as the defender was on his way to the Emirates before the match with Hull.
After realising who he had stopped (Jenkinson’s full Arsenal tracksuit must have helped in the identification process), the copper took a picture with the 21-year-old and posted onto Twitter.
Jenkinson is on the staring list for Arsenal against Hull with Bacary Sagna out injured.
Part of our mandate on this blog is to let y'all know about the delectable WAGS (Wives And Girlfriends) of your favorite Athletes... Sportunes will be a breeding ground for WAGS as these beautiful women are often scooped up by some of the worlds finest athletes.
Many vault from being previously unknown to becoming household names as we have seen in Andy Roddick and Brooklyn Decker. While some probably made the athletes household names like we saw in Kim n Kris. Some 'equally' shine bright like diamonds alongside their athletic spouses like Mr n Mrs Beckham.
The lifestyle of a professional athlete is stunning already so when these guys get to go home to some of the worlds most beautiful models, forgive us if we don't shed a tear for them.
Our WAG of the week goes to;
Vincent Enyeama remains invincible in France, for the past three months, French Ligue 1 players have thrown everything at him, but the Nigerian guardian angel has refused to be broken. Yesterday, the Lille goalkeeper moved a few steps closer to history as he amazingly notched up his 11th consecutive clean sheet in Lille.
The Louisville women rolled to a 91-49 win over Missouri State yesterday night, but the bigger story was the scary incident that took place early in the first half of the game.
Antonita Slaughter, a senior from Christian Academy of Louisville, started the game and scored the first basket. She had come out of the game and was standing next to the bench when she fell over with 17:13 left of the first half and the Cards ahead 7-2.

Sergio Ramos must be the proudest footballer at the moment, shortly after receiving the LaLiga defender of the year award (HERE), the Madrid man reached six million followers on Facebook.
A press conference was held in Brazil today, in which the Creme d'la Creme of world football had a round table meeting, to allocate pots for the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014 Final Draw which will be held on friday.
The draw will be organised so that there will be no more than two European teams in any group of four countries, and all the African teams will be kept apart. One country in the all European pot 4 still have to join Nigeria in Pot 2, hence we are now in danger of facing a potential group of death as there is a possibility of having defending world champions Spain, Asian champions Japan and CRISTIANO RONALDO's Portugal in the same group with us.. There's also another possibility of being grouped with FIVE time champions and hosts Brazil, CONCACAF champions USA and Robin Van Persie's Netherlands...
Stop sweating guys, those are just the worst possible scenarios as a whole lot of weaker permutations can work in our favour.. For example, we can have Switzerland, Honduras and first timers Bosnia & Herzegovina.. Moreover, we are African Champions and we shouldn't be intimidated.
What happens when an unstoppable object collides with an immovable object? Well that was the situation between the two best players in the world - Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as they headed to the LaLiga awards ceremony which held in Madrid. Although Messi won the best player award for the fifth year in a row, an inaugural award however was invented for Ronaldo who bagged the the MVP gong that recognises "the player who has had the most impact on his club, both on and off the pitch".
Homage must be paid to the Oxford University women's rugby team - because of their bravery, there might be hope for all mentally derailed people. The female team stripped down to just their rugby boots and socks for black and white photographs taken around the city to raise cash for the Mind Your Head, Oxford's mental health awareness campaign.
Tom Daley has been the most searched British athlete in the last 24 hours, the reason cannot be far-fetched, the Olympic bronze medalist announced yesterday that he is gay. Tom is not the first athlete to come out as gay, Orlando Cruz, Gareth Thomas, John Amaechi and most recently Jason Collins who enjoyed so much support from prominent figures such as Obama and Bill Clinton (HERE) have all dropped the bombshell... Hence Tom is not alone in his personal struggles. But the way events have been unfolding since the 20 year old made the bold announcement yesterday, it just seems the world at large aren't ready for another merry go round.

According to BBC, Yaya Toure is the best player in Africa!! The Ivory Coast and Manchester City midfielder, who had been nominated in each of the past four years, beat Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Victor Moses, John Mikel Obi and Jonathan Pitroipa to this year's BBC African player of the year crown.
The 30-year-old told BBC Sport: "I think I've been nominated for five years in a row and finally winning the award is amazing.
News going round now state that Bayern Munich and French star Frank Ribery has vented his anger on Mamadou Sakho after the Liverpool defender publicly stated he would vote for Cristiano Ronaldo to win the Ballon d'Or.
Some school of thoughts believe Ribery should be given the award, following the key role he played in Bayern Munich's unprecedented treble last season but Sakho is not a student of that school as he publicly endorsed Ronaldo as the world best.
