Greatest Streaks In Sports History

In sports, a streak refers to a consecutive number of games won or undefeated. A streak can be held by a team as in baseball, football, basketball, hockey or by an individual as in tennis.

Steaua Bucharest did something incredible from 1986 - 1989 when they went 104 matches undefeated in the Romanian league, the kind of streak that fans of the 65 yr old club will never forget. In basketball, this season the Miami heat put together 27 wins a row, which is the most consecutive wins the NBA has seen in years and automatically converted me to the sport.

Individually, Pakistani's Jahangir Khan had 555 consecutive wins in squash from 1981 to 1986 which is recognized as the longest winning streak by any athlete in sports history.

Well, the list goes on and on, Sportunes will from time to time bring to your memory lane the greatest streaks in the history of our sports.

Rocky Marciano Wins 49 Straight Fights

Rocky Marciano was an American professional boxer and the World Heavyweight Champion from 1952, to 1956. Marciano is the only champion to hold the heavyweight title and go untied and undefeated throughout his career. Marciano defended his title six times.

It didn’t get any better in boxing than Rocky Marciano from 1948 until 1955. This guy was turning opponent’s faces into mush long before Joe Frazier or Mike Tyson came along.

They say all good things come to an end, but this rock was having none of that as he never lost a fight, which by today’s standards is almost unprecedented. Yes, you read that correctly, Marciano went 49-0 in his career with 43 knockouts and six unanimous decisions.  His reign nearly came to an end on March 24, 1950 when Roland La Starza went toe-to-toe for all 10 rounds but lost the decision.

It’s safe to say, this record streak will never be broken in our generation.
