Mo Farah took second place in the 5,000 metres in his first Diamond League outing of the year in Eugene, Oregon.
Farah, who has been struck down with a stomach virus in recent weeks and missed yesterday's 10,000 metres, posted a season-best time of 13min 5.88sec but that was not enough to see off Kenya's Edwin Soi, who won with 13:4.75.
Former Olympic champion Justin Gatlin won the men's 100 metres title.
The 31-year-old American, who won gold at Athens in 2004 then bronze in London last year after serving a doping ban, won the blue-riband sprint in a wind-assisted time of 9.88 seconds.
It was Gatlin's second Diamond League win this season after he also won in Doha last month.
In the Women's 100m Nigeria's Blessing Okagbare came second just behind the reigning olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and ahead of seven times olympic medalist Veronica Campbell- Brown
