Eight athletes who dominated thelr sport like Nadal has at Roland Garros



Nine French Open campaigns, eight French Open triumphs.

Eight Grand Slam titles at one venue, Roland Garros.

From sixty matches on the Paris clay, Rafael Nadal has won 59.

The Spaniard's record title at the weekend is a remarkable run of dominance, for sure. One to which few can compare notes in any sport.

Few, however, not none. There are a few sporting runs which measure up to Rafa's Roland Garros feats, and in honour of Nadal's eighth trophy, we have picked out eight other great athletes who can claim to be the Rafael Nadal of their sport.

Btw we are just going to set the records straight, as they all need no introduction.



1) MICHAEL SCHUMACHER, FORMULA 1

Seven world championships spanning just over a decade, including five on the bounce to kick off the 21st century. Years won: 1994, 1995, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004.

2) MICHEAL PFELPS, SWIMMING

The greatest Olympian of all time, Phelps bagged 18 Olympic gold medals in 24 in Olympic finals. Years won: 2004 Athens – 100 m butterfly, 200 m butterfly, 200 m individual medley, 400 m individual medley, 4×200 m freestyle relay, 4×100 m medley relay 2008 Beijing – 100 m butterfly, 200 m butterfly, 200 m freestyle, 200 m individual medley, 400 m individual medley, 4×100 m freestyle relay, 4×200 m freestyle relay 4×100 m medley relay 2012 London – 100 m butterfly 200 m individual medley, 4×200 m freestyle relay, 4×100 m medley relay




3) YELENA ISINBAYEVA, POLE-VAULTER 

She is widely considered the greatest female pole-vaulter of all time. Setting 28 world records (15 outdoor and 13 indoor), staying virtually unbeaten between 2004 and 2009 (winning nine straight gold medals in indoor and outdoor championships) and being elected IAAF World Athlete of the Year in 2004, 2005 and 2008, Isinbayeva has established herself as one of the most successful athletes of her generation.


4) STEPHEN HENDRY, SNOOKER

Seven world titles - including his own five-year run of domination - overtook 1980s king Steve Davis.Years won: 1990, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1999.



5) EDWIN MOSES, 400m HURDLES

The American claimed Olympic gold at Montreal '76 and Los Angeles '84, as well as at the '83 and '87 World Championships. He won 107 consecutive finals (122 consecutive races) and set the world record in his event four times.



6) PHIL TAYLOR, DARTS

Darts' greatest ever player and its first millionaire performer, Phil Taylor has won 16 world championships (14 PDC, two BDO) and counting. Years won: 1990, 1992, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2013.

7) SEBASTIEN LOEB, RALLY DRIVER

He is the most successful driver in WRC history, having won the world championship a record nine times in a row.  He has the most Rally wins with 78, most Podiums with 116 and also the most points in WRC history(1619).

Years won:  (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008,2009, 2010, 2011, 2012)

Pedestal: Some argue that Messi hasn't performed on the biggest stage, particularly the World Cup, which Maradona and Pele won four times between them

8) EDSON ARANTES DO NASCIMENTO 'PELE'

Pele is the arguably the best player that has ever graced this universe. His 1281 goals makes him the highest goal scorer in the history of football. He won the Brazilian league golden boot for 11 years ( 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1969, 1973.)
