Manchester United’s summer signings will be offered brand new Chevrolet cars but only on the condition that they agree to drive them to training every day.

The Barclays Premier League champions have a £357m deal in place with the American car giants and will wear the Chevrolet name on their shirts from the start of the 2014-15 season.

Now the club have taken the unusual step of insisting first team players leave their own cars at home every day and drive their Chevrolets – if they choose to have one – in to the Carrington training centre when they come to work.

United’s stars are often photographed driving down the long lane to training by the cameramen who gather by the security barriers every day.

The club’s arrangement with their players will therefore guarantee maximum exposure for their sponsors and perhaps explains why so many United stars were pictured in their official club wheels last season.

For example, Patrice Evra, Jonny Evans, Antonio Valencia and Tom Cleverley were all snapped driving 184mph Chevrolet Camaros last season.

Paul Scholes also got a £40,000 Chevrolet - but it was stolen from his driveway soon afterwards when he left the engine running whilst he defrosted the windows.
