There’s a thin line between dedication and insanity and Carl Froch walked that line for almost 60 days, with a heavy, heavy burden hanging on him.
In preparation for his bout with Mikkel Kessler last Saturday, the IBF super-middleweight champion completely abstained from sexual contact with model girlfriend Rachael Cordingley, according to the New York Daily News.
Froch trained like a madman, working out four hours a day, five days a week for three months while avoiding all forms of intercourse with Cordingley.
That’s right—three months living with a former Miss Maxim. Zero slap and tickle.
Froch claims the two slept in different rooms in the months leading up to the fight in order to cut down on temptation. Judging by the modeling work done by Miss Cordingley in the past, the setup also included padlocks on the outside of the doors.
The reason? The boxer says abstinence gives him an edge in competition.
'I feel stronger and fitter when I abstain because my body holds on to more testosterone. Women weaken legs. I don’t get weak legs when I’m abstaining. Sometimes two weeks is long enough to give me the strength—you can’t overdo it.'
Three months seems like a bit much, but it paid off for Froch, who dominated Kessler and took home the WBF title Saturday. It wasn’t his only prize that night, however.
“[Rachel and I] had a hot, steamy night of passion that had been building up for the last three months,” Froch said, adding that he’s glad things are back to “normal.”
I don’t know about you guys, but I almost feel bad for Cordingley. Also, the two better enjoy their time while they have it. He’s fighting American Andre Ward in five months.
