Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia took the first step towards resolving their differences on Monday when they shook hands on the practice range at the US Open.
The exchange, initiated by Garcia, appeared civil enough and it is believed they agreed to meet on Monday night for a longer chat.
It was the first time they had met face to face since Garcia made his infamous ‘fried chicken’ remark at an awards dinner during the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth last month. (HERE).
Woods was distinctly unimpressed, calling the slur ‘inappropriate and clearly hurtful.’
A contrite Garcia contacted Woods’ manager Mark Steinberg to apologise, but there are fears he will face a backlash among the noisy Philadelphia fans when the action starts there on Thursday.
The Spaniard was accompanied by a police officer when he played a few practice holes on Monday afternoon.
Both players are due to give press conferences on Tuesday, when it is expected they will take the opportunity to finally draw a line under their long-running feud.
