Andy Murray for Prime Minister! Tributes pour in for Andy Murray after making history at Wimbledon!

Rio Ferdinand, Gary Lineker, Joey Barton, David Haye and more have joined the masses congratulating Andy Murray's historic victory over Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon.

The outstanding Briton staggeringly defeated Djokovic in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, 6-4, becoming the first from the British shores to win the men's title since Fred Perry in 1936.

And as Tweet Lords,,,, Lineker, Ferdinand and Barton were among the first to express their feelings.

Lineker posted: 'What a fighter! What a talent. What a man. What a winner! @andy_murray Wimbledon champion! Congratulations!'

Barton was typically forward in his response. He wrote: 'If you'd have told me Murray would have won this in straight. I would have called you deluded... #unbelievable.





And Haye, who knows a thing or two about competing in individual sports, posted: #So buzzing @andy_murray for prime minister!!!'

Olympic gold medallist Greg Rutherford wrote: 'Unbelievable amazing awesome and all the great descriptive words!! @andy_murray has done it!!'

There were also reactions from Andy Roddick, Jessica Ennis, Ricky Hatton and Kenny Dalglish.






Roddick added: 'Pretty sure @andy_murray might have to change his twitter name to @sirandymurray …… Well played and deserved.'

Compatriot Dalglish, another of Scotland's most decorated sportsmen, wrote: 'Rename Henman’s Hill to Murray’s Mount!!'

Two England footballers in Andy Carroll and Jack Wilshere also congratulated Murray via Twitter,





'Murray you legend!!,' Carroll simply wrote,
