Federer might have reached the end of his road as the former world number 1 faces upset in Hamburg

Defeated: Federer leaves the court during the semifinal match against Argentina's Delbonis
Federer has only one title in this bag this season
Federer has dropped to No. 5, his lowest ranking in a decade. The 31-year-old Swiss's only title this year came on grass before Wimbleon in Halle, Germany.

The then defending Wimbledon champion, Federer lost to No. 116 Sergiy Stakhovsky — a player who failed to qualify for Hamburg. It was his earliest Grand Slam defeat in 10 years and his first loss to a player ranked outside the top 100 since 2005.

Federer changed his racket after Wimbledon, going for a bigger frame. But he's been struggling in Hamburg where he had twice been pushed to three sets on his way to the semi-finals, But today the Swiss man couldn't push his luck further as he lost to Argentine qualifier Federico Delbonis 7-6 (7), 7-6 (4) . A 22 year old that was playing only the second semifinal of his career.

Roger Federer - Wimbledon Tennis Championships: Day 3
End of the road for Roger?
It's the second time this season that Roger Federer has lost to a player ranked outside the top 100.

We know Federer has the character in him, we know he is arguably the best tennis player ever, he's the one with the most grand slams, nobody in the history of tennis has held the numero uno rank more than him.. so these facts can make ardent Roger fans think of one light at the end of one tunnel.

But Sportunes can categorically say the light at the end of that tunnel is from an upcoming train and the people onboard are all the players ranked in the top 100.
