Papiss Cisse forced to train alone as Wonga saga goes on

The Wonga Saga at Newcastle appears to show no signs of slowing down as Newcastle forced forward Papiss Cisse to train alone until he ends his personal boycott of the new shirt sponsor.

The Senegal striker turned up to training yesterday to join his team-mates but was banished to the gym.

Cisse is refusing to wear Wonga gear because he believes their controversial business practices are in conflict with his Muslim beliefs. Islam, like several other major religions, prohibits the practice of usury.

Some of the other practising Muslims at the club, including Hatem Ben Arfa, have been training wearing the shirts.

Newcastle announced a £24million, four-year deal with lender Wonga last year. Under Sharia law, Muslims must not benefit from lending money.
