Sportunes Confederations Cup World XI

The FIFA Confederations cup is finally over with all the thrills, drama, Tahitis, breath taking goals and team performances.  We at Sportunes are bringing our best 11 which has a representation of every confederation at the just concluded World cup rehearsal.

Goal Keeper

Julio Cesar - Brazil v Uruguay

Julio Cesar stood out among his pairs during the competition as he conceded a meager 3 goals, whereas the combination of Casillas and Buffon saw 29 goals fly past them. Cesar saw it all at the two week crusade - his wife was held at gunpoint, faced penalties, aerial bombardments, one on ones.. at the end of  the day he stood his ground and won the the golden gloves award for the best goalie in the competition. Hence winning the heart of Sportunes.

Defenders

Maxi Pereira

Maxi Pereira

The Uruguayan defender was spot on in his tackles and showed the form that took Benfica to the Europa League final and a Portuguese league title near miss, The hard defender made the South American defence thick.

Sergio Ramos

Undone: Luis Suarez and Ramos fight for possession

Sergio Ramos was his usual rugged self all through the competetion, The Madrid man started all the matches, Del Bosque only gathered enough balls to substitute him when La Foria Roja were 4 goals up against the Tahitians.

David Luiz

David Luiz - Brazil v Uruguay

David Luiz must have been praying  for a starting berth in his homeland, his prayers were answered as the Chelsea man started all the matches, fending off competition from treble winner - Dante.  Luiz dint show an atom of tiredness coming back from a marathon campaign with Chelsea.

Jordi Alba

Jordi Alba - Nigeria v Spain: Group B - FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013

The Barca full back was a mile apart from his counterparts, he showed through out the tournament how to turn defence into attack as he almost single handedly demolished Nigeria and  had a near miss against italy. He couldnt neutralize the effect of the samba poison, but at the end he can go home head high and say he was the highest scoring defender.

Midfielders

Tehau

Jonathan Tehau - Alexander McQueen Runway Show

Jonathan Tehau is not a professional footballer but that dint stop him from making history - On 17 June 2013, Jonathan Tehau scored Tahiti's first goal at a Confederations Cup, a text book header from a corner, Tehau also scored an own goal later on in the game, making him the first person to score at both ends in Confederations Cup history. We at Sportunes have one belief, If the Tahitian midfielder is removed from his aquarium and thrown into an ocean to swim with sharks, hes not only going to survive, He will Thrive!

Andres Iniesta

Andres Iniesta - Spain v Italy

Andre Iniesta was at his Merciless best through out the competition, The Barca man made professional defenders look like they were doing I.T. his mazy runs and dribbles were instrumental in Spains road to the final, even when the Spaniards were embarrassed in the final, He still shined and went on to claim the Silver ball award.

Mikel Obi

Hanging by a thread: Nigeria are now level on points with Uruguay going into the final game against Spain

Mikel Obi played like a man on a coded mission in the just concluded tournament. The Eagle showed all the attributes and qualities that once made him the most wanted footballer in British football. The Chelsea  midfielder marshalled the Nigerian midfield, won tackles cleanly and released crispy passes, He capped it all up with a breathtaking goal against the Uruguayans

Shinji Kagawa

Shinji Kagawa - Japan v Mexico: Group A - FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013

Shinji Kagawa used the Confederations cup to pass a message across the world that he's still as potent as ever. The Man united player was at the heart of everything good for the Japanese, His marshaling of midfield was reminiscent of his Dortmund days which made him win the domestic double.

Forwards

Javier Hernandez

Rising high: The Manchester United striker scored twice in the second half for Mexico

Javier Hernandez was one of the best players in the tournament, he scored three goals without playing Tahiti. Although his poaching skills wasnt enough to save Mexico from bowing out in the 1st round, but the little pea will go on to be the only Central American on this list.

Neymar

Neymar - Brazil v Uruguay

Neymer Dos Santos Jnr! Everything about this Golden boy seems to be Golden, the fan favorite of the Brazilian nation had 4 Golden goals to his Golden name which earned the Barca man the Golden ball award.

Substitutes

Gianluigi Buffon

Lugano

Marcelo

Pirlo

Paulinho

Cavani

Fred
