TRANSFER BATTLES: Rooney, Nani, Ronaldo, Negredo, Barry, Pantilimon, Higuain, Mannone, Bale, Llorente, Cavani, Shelvey, Barton..

Wayne Rooney will have to submit a written transfer request if he wants to leave Manchester United.
The Old Trafford forward returned to training on Wednesday with his future still up in the air. It is understood he did not have a specific meeting with new manager David Moyes about his situation.

That may happen at the club’s Carrington training centre Today. The two men did speak but not for long and United’s stance on him remains unchanged.

They say the England forward is not for sale. Having dismissed speculative rumors from Barclays Premier League rivals Arsenal last week, United have not had any contact from one of the few clubs that could afford Rooney.

The only way the situation will change is if the player decides to force the issue.

Forcing the issue means the United star will have to tender his 3rd transfer request in his Manchester United career. The written request would mean Rooney would write off any money owed on the two remaining years of his £250,000-a-week contract.

Also looking to leave the Theater Of Dreams is Nani, Roma are keen on the Portuguese. The Premier League champions want around £12million for the winger who has one year left on his contract.

Galatasaray and Monaco have also shown interest although the French club have yet to make a bid.

Manchester United target Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted that he still misses English football. David Moyes would love to bring the Real Madrid superstar, who United sold for £80million in 2009, back to Old Trafford.

Ronaldo told Sky Sports: 'I really miss English football. For me, it was some of the best years when I was there, everyone knows that. Manchester United is still a club that is close to my heart.'

Real are trying to get the 28-year-old to sign a new deal but United hope his ties with former manager Sir Alex Ferguson, now a director at the club, will bring him 'home'.

But Ronaldo also said he has taken to life in the Spanish capital.

'Now my life in in Spain and I have enjoyed playing there too,' he continued. 'Part of my life is there, but in the future we never know. I am really, really happy in the Spanish league.'

Manchester City are interested in an £18m move for Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo. Negotiations are still to unfold but Manuel Pellegrini has identified the Spain international as a target to replace Carlos Tevez.

Pellegrini tried to sign Negredo while coach at Malaga but now, with relations good between City and Sevilla due to director of football Txiki Begiristain and the purchase of Jesus Navas, the City manager wants to try again.

Negredo, 27, had been due to sign for Atletico Madrid this week but the deal stalled over the fee with Sevilla demanding £21.2m from their fierce La Liga rivals.

President Jose Maria del Nido described the prospect of a move to Atletico as having 'zero percent chance' before confirming interest from England.

City have also considered Benfica's Oscar Cardozo and Bayern Munich's Mario Gomez who is talking to Fiorentina.

Arsenal are considering a move for Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry – whose contract at the Etihad Stadium is set to expire at the end of this season.

Barry, 32, is hoping to be offered a new deal with Manuel Pellegrini’s side but he is wary that his place in the team – which had been virtually guaranteed for the last two seasons under former boss Roberto Mancini – could be put in jeopardy by the arrival of Fernandinho from Shakhtar Donetsk.

It means Barry, who also needs regular first-team football ahead of next year’s World Cup in Brazil, is now competing for a central midfield place with Fernandinho, Yaya Toure, Jack Rodwell and Javi Garcia.

It is understood that City would prefer to keep Barry – who is popular among the club’s supporters – but it is anticipated the England midfielder would be forced to accept a deal on reduced terms.

In May, City chief executive Ferran Soriano said that the size of the squad must remain the same heading into the new season, and hinted that any arrivals must also mean departures. With the arrivals of Fernandinho and Jesus Navas, it may therefore mean a midfield player needs to be offloaded.

The Sun reports that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is chasing a holding midfielder and the signing of Barry at a cut-price £3.5million could fit the ball in the short term at least.

Arsenal would offer Barry a two-year contract but he would have to take a sizeable cut on the £100,000 -week he is earning at the Etihad.

Meanwhile, City goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon is set to see out his contract with the club before leaving on a free transfer next summer.

The Manchester Evening News claims that the Romanian’s move to Fiorentina has fallen through after the Italian side signed Uruguayan Gustavo Munua instead.

Gonzalo Higuain’s father has indicated that his son’s protracted £22million move to Arsenal should be completed shortly. The Gunners have been close to the signing of the Argentinian for some time, with the striker’s brother and agent Nicolas claiming that a deal was nearly done last week.

The wait should be over soon though, as Jorge Higuain has said he has permission from Real Madrid to speak to Arsenal and conclude a deal.

‘We do not negotiate with any club without permission of the selling club,’ Higuain told TuttoMercato.

‘We have permission [from Madrid] and hopefully we can soon see my son in the Premier League.’

Arsenal keeper Vito Mannone has completed his £2million switch to Sunderland. The Italian keeper was at Sunderland’s Academy of Light training ground yesterday morning for his medical and has completed the paperwork to conclude his move from the Emirates.

He told the club's official website: 'Of course, every player knows they have competition.

'We live in a world of competition. I will work and do my best to be in the first eleven, and then the manager will decide.

'All I can do is try to show what I am capable of.'

He added: 'The potential [of the club] is incredible. I have come from a big club but to be honest, I don't see any difference in the facilities.

'From what I can see on my first day, they are brilliant. To have good facilities where you can work and improve is something every club wants to achieve.

'The base is there and I am really happy to be here. I waited a long time for an opportunity like Sunderland, and for me it is a great one.

'I'm very excited. I am here to work hard and to show what I can do.'

Sunderland boss Paolo Di Canio has moved quickly to add the Italian 25-year-old to his squad following Simon Mignolet’s £9million move to Liverpool.

Real Madrid have given up hope of signing Gareth Bale this summer, according to reports in Spain. But the nine-time European champions are determined to land the Tottenham winger next season.

A number of key Real figures, including new assistant coach Zinedine Zidane and president Florentino Perez have revealed their desire for the Wales star to join them at the Bernabeu.
However, Marca, seen as the mouthpiece of the Spanish giants, revealed the club have given up for this summer after realising Spurs would not buckle.

Marca’s website said: 'Real Madrid have decided to put the Gareth Bale signing on hold. After receiving yet another “no” from Tottenham Hotspur, Florentino Perez and his team have decided to call it a day and now see the signing of Bale this summer as impossible.

'Daniel Levy, the English club’s president, is not open to negotiation, and faced with such inflexibility, reaching any sort of agreement is not viable.'

Bale’s agent confirmed to the Evening Standard that Madrid had yet to make a bid and that player is happy at White Hart Lane - and is looking forward to pre-season.

Llorente has sealed a four-year contract at the Turin club after escaping from the personal nightmare at previous side Athletic Bilbao, where he struggled for goals last season after falling out with the club over a transfer away.

Having finally got his wish, and following former Manchester City striker Tevez to the Serie A champions, Llorente is targeting honours at his new club straight away.

'For me it’s a dream to be here. Juventus is a fantastic club and I believe the club is perfect for someone like me who always wants to improve,' he told the club's official website.

'Last year the team played beautiful football and deserved to win the league. I hope we can do the same next season.

'Winning a third consecutive league title would be an achievement, if you consider that Juve haven’t done so since 1935, so managing to do it would be great.'

'It was a difficult year because I couldn’t play, that’s what I love doing, and I wasn’t able to help the team out.

'Things went differently to how I would have preferred them to go but I want to thank Athletic all the same. It was the club where I grew as a player and I really love the city.

'Last year hindered my progress with the national team too so I hope to get back on track while I’m at Juventus.'

He is also not concerned about the number of forwards now at the club, including Tevez.

'There are six strikers at the club and they’re all ready to do well,' He said.

'It’s up to the coach to decide who goes out on the pitch.

'I’m just happy to pull on such a prestigious shirt and I want to thank the fans for the wonderful welcome they’ve given me. It’s been incredible.'

New Paris Saint-Germain coach Laurent Blanc has admitted his desire to bring Edinson Cavani to the capital, following reports the French champions made a £43million bid for the sought-after striker.

Speaking at a press conference, Blanc told reporters: ‘I would be very happy.

‘He is a player that I love, like a lot of people.

'I saw him play several times with Naples and Uruguay, and should he be part of the Parisian team, I would be very happy.'

Swansea City have completed the signing of Jonjo Shelvey from Liverpool for an initial £5million, potentially rising to £6m with add-ons. The 21-year-old passed a medical and agreed personal terms for a four-year deal in south Wales on Wednesday.

And after sealing the deal he took to Twitter to thanks Liverpool fans for their support and looked forward to joining his new team-mates in South Wales.

He said: 'Just wanna say thank you to every one of the Liverpool fans for there support! They were first class. And will be truly missed.. Will miss The city very much.. And the club! Owe a lot to everyone there! Thank you. Time to start a new chapter in life in Wales. Thank you.'

Liverpool midfielder Lucas tweeted: 'Good luck @shelveyJ la !!!!'

Joey Barton is demanding a staggering £3m to leave QPR after he finally arrived for pre-season training on Wednesday.

Barton has told Rangers he will walk away from his £70,000-a-week contract if they agree to his demands.

The midfielder, 30, still has two years left to run on his contract and it will cost the Championship club £7m to keep him.

Barton claims Marseille have offered him £30,000 a week to return to the south of France following a season long loan at the Ligue 1 club.

Rangers chief Harry Redknapp expected Barton to report for training at Rangers on Monday but the midfielder didn’t show up.
Earlier Yesterday, Redknapp told talkSPORT: ‘Joey Barton was sent the same information as every other player. That was to report for training on Monday. We haven’t seen him.

‘I don’t follow Twitter so I don’t know what’s going on. He wants to go to Marseille and he did very well there last year, but he’s got two years left of his deal here

‘I think he’s looking for the club to give him a payday here and then he’ll go. I don’t know how it’s all going to end.’
