Arsenal 1 3 Aston Villa
Arsenal had a worst possible start to the 2013/2014 premier league season as they lost 3-1 at home to Aston Villa. It was a show of shame from the gunners, they find themselves 17th on the table after starting the day in first place by virtue of order of Alphabets. Arsene Wenger having parted ways with fourteen players over the summer and bringing in just one Yaya Sanogo might just be the loneliest man in the managerial world right now. The French boss has only 12 fit outfield players with 10 players on the treatment table. Aaron Ramsey, Tomas Rosicky, Alex Chamberlain, Bacary Sagna, Kierran Gibbs, Mikel Arteta, Ryo Miyaichi, Nacho Monreal. Thomas Vermalaen, Abou Diaby all facing spells on the side lines. With laurent Koscielney receiving a red card, the gunners will take only 2 defenders to Craven Cottage when they face Fulham next weekend.
Arsenal can only take solace in the fact that the transfer window is still open but whether Arsene Wenger is ready to sign is another thing to ponder about.
Chelsea 2 0 Hull City
The Stamford Bridge was to host two come backs over the weekend: first it was the return of the self anointed special one - Jose Mourinho and secondly Hull city were making a come back to the premier league after 3 years leave. The match which ended 2-0 in favor of the Blues saw the Portuguese coach extend his unbeaten home streak in the premier league to 61 games now courtesy of an Oscar strike and a Lampard stunner. Chelsea next face Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge.
Swansea City 1 4 Manchester United
All the talks of David Moyes not having what it takes to fill into Sir Alex Fergusson's shoes were put on hold as Manchester United ran riot at the Liberty stadium mauling the reigning league cup champions Swansea 4 - 1. A brace each from Robin Van Persie and Danny Welbeck propelled the Red Devils to the top of the table as they prepare assault on their title defence. Alongside RVP's two stunning strikes,Welbeck also made headlines - The 22 year old's brace means he's already surpassed his total EPL goals of last season.
Elsewhere Liverpool beat Stoke City at Anfield. The Reds have made a decent start to the season as Daniel Sturidge's 2nd half low strike was enough to see off the potters who lost a late minute penalty via Jonathan Walters.
Tottenham also kick started their campaign with a win as they saw off the challenge of newly promoted Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. It was a dream debut for Roberto Soldado as he scored the only goal of the match from the spot.
