HAPPY BIRTHDAY: Michael Thomas, Tugay Kerimoğlu, Denílson de Oliveira Araújo, José Bosingwa, Joseph Akpala, Maya Yoshida

Michael Thomas



Michael Thomas is 46 today. He is an English former professional footballer who played as a midfielder from 1986 to 2001. He is best remembered for scoring a last-minute goal in injury time during the final match of the 1988-89 season, which allowed Arsenal to claim the First Division title over Liverpool. Later in his career, Thomas went on to play for Liverpool and scored a goal for the Reds in the 1992 FA Cup Final. He also had spells at Benfica and Wimbledon before retiring in 2001, after a career that saw him win medals in all of English football's top three domestic football trophies. He was capped twice by England.

Tugay Kerimoğlu



Tugay Kerimoğlu is 43 today. He is a Turkish former footballer who played the majority of his career for Galatasaray and Blackburn Rovers. Continually recognised for his ability he was highly rated in the football industry. In 2000, former Romanian legend Gheorghe Hagi rated him as one of the finest ball-playing midfielders in Europe and in 2006, Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson had suggested that if he were ten years younger, Tugay's ability would make him an ideal player for the Old Trafford team. When Tugay's manager at the time, Mark Hughes, was asked if he too wished Tugay was ten years younger, his answer was "No, because if he was, he'd be playing in a Barcelona shirt.

Denílson de Oliveira Araújo



Denílson de Oliveira Araújo is 36 today. He is a retired Brazilian footballer who played as a left winger. In a 16-year professional career he played mainly for São Paulo and Betis – being the world's most expensive player when he signed for the latter in 1998 – but also represented teams in five other countries. Denílson gained more than 60 caps for Brazil, making his full debut before his 20th birthday and representing the nation in six international tournaments, including two World Cups (winning the 2002 edition).

José Bosingwa



José Bosingwa is 31 today. He is one of the most decorated defenders in European football as He spent most of his professional career with Porto and Chelsea, winning 15 major titles both clubs combined, including two Champions League titles.

Joseph Akpala



Joseph Akpala is 27 today. He is a Nigerian footballer who is currently contracted to  SV Werder Bremen. Akpala is a product of the Pepsi Football Academy in Lagos. His first professional contract came in April 2003 with Bendel United Football Club. Two years later, he  joined Bendel Insurance FC, Benin City in the Premier Division of the Nigerian Professional League where he finished as joint top scorer with 13 goals in 19 games.

Akpala was then signed by the Royal Charleroi Sporting Club in the Belgian Jupiler League in 2006. He had a very successful campaign in the 2007–08 Belgian League as he topped the scorers chart with 18 goals. In 2008, Akpala joined Club Brugge and he spent four years there before moving to Werder Bremen in 2012. After scoring just a single goal all through last season, The frontman has been told he can leave by the German club and he's currently undergoing trials in Reading

Maya Yoshida



Maya Yoshida is 25 today. He is a Japanese football player who plays as a centre back for Premier League club Southampton. Earlier in the month, it was announced that Yoshida would be on the front cover of the Japanese Edition of FIFA 14.
