THE CONTENDERS

BAYERN MUNICH

Manager: Pep Guardiola.

Treble Winning and Defending Deutshe Master Bayern Munich are the early favorites for the Bundesliga title. The Die Roten would want to prove that last season's unprecedented success with then manager Jupp Heynckes was no fluke. Although new manager Pep Guardiola has a big shoe to fill in, we all know he has the technical knowledge, wit, character to take the Bavarians to greater heights. With Bayern's rich fussball history, bragging rights over rivals Borussia Dortmund, being the most decorated German side with 23 Bundesliga titles, the first club in German history to win a treble....  Fans and critics of the beautiful game might say there's nothing left for Bayern to prove in German football but with Guardiola, it can only get better and better as he has the opportunity to win 5 trophies in his maiden Bundesliga season.

Major Players In:

*Mario Goetze became the club's record signing before Mario Gomez was sold.

BORUSSIA DORTMUND:

Manager: Jurgen Klopp.

German Super Cup Winners and last Season's Runner up Dortmund would want to banish the "24 points Stigma" away this coming campaign. With coach Jurgen Klopp already having the edge with the 4-2 super cup victory over rivals Bayern, reclaiming the Bundesliga from their rivals would be a sweet taste in a sour mouth which came about  as a result of the sale of "German Messi" - Mario Goetze for a German transfer record of €37m.

Major Players In

Sokratis Papastathopoulos(from werder bremen[€9.5m])
Pierre-Emerick Aubemeyang(from St. Etiene[€13m])
*Henrikh Mhkitharyan (from Shakhtar Donestk[€27.5m])

Major Players Out:

Mario Goetze(Bayern Munich), Felipe Santana(Schalke 04), Moritz Leitner(Loaned to VfB Stuttgart), Lasse Sobeich(Hamburg SV)

*Henrikh Mhkitharyan is Dortmund's record signing after Maricio Amoroso in 2001/02 summer transfer.

"THE DARK HORSES":

BAYER LEVERKUSEN 04:

Manager: Samii Hypia

"The Almost Champions" of  Bundesliga as they are referred to, would want to make history with Liverpool and Finnish legend Sami Hypia. Bayer 04 have never won the Bundesliga in the history of the German league, even narrowly  missing out on the title on two occasions especially in year 2000 when a Michael Ballack own goal made the "Lowens"(Lions) miss out of the Bundesliga title on the last day to eventual champions Bayern Munich hence they'v been dubbed as 'Neverkusen'. Now with highest goal scorer and goal machine Stefan Kiesling, new Korean signing Son Heung Min, German-Nigerian born midfielder Sidney Sam  and Turkish Omer Toprak, Bayer Leverkusen would give both Bayern and Dortmund a 'Bolt' chase for the right to be the KING OF BUNDESLIGA.

Major Players In: Emir Spahic(from Sevilla Fc[€400,000]), Son Heung Min(from Hamburg SV[€10m]), Robert Hilbert(from Beskitas SK[€1.5m]), Andres Palop(From Sevilla Fc[Free Agent]), Guilo Donati (from Inter Milan[€3m]).

Major Players Out: Daniel Schwaab(to VfB Stuttgart),Andre Schurrle(to Chelsea Fc),Hajime Hosogai(to Hertha Berlin),Michael Rensing(to Fortuna Dusseldorf),Michal Kadlac(to Fernerbache Sk).

FC SCHALKE 04:

Manager: Jens Keller.

Our second "dark horse" club is Schalke 04. Fourth placed club last season Fc Schalke 04 would want to prove that they also have a fair chance to lift the Bundeliga. Although they have 7 Bundesliga titles in their bags, the Die Königsblauen haven't won it in over 50 years, With what we know about a particular London team and breaking its 50 years league drought, Sportunes can categorically say the Royal Blues have an outside chance of winning the 2013 - 2014 Bundesliga title. Coach Jens keller alongside top Dutch striker Jan Klass Huntelaar, German talent Julian Draxler, new signing Felipe Santana and defensive maestro Benedikt Hoewdes, Schalke would be all out to make sure their names are inscribed as a team referred to has the "Deutsche Master" this season.

Major Players In:

Felipe Santana(from B. Dortmund[€1m]) Leon Goretzka(from Vfl Bochum[€3.3m]), Adam Szalai(from FSV Mainz 05[€8m]),Christian Clemens(from Fc Koln[€2.8m])

Major Players Out:

Raffael (on loan from Dynamo kiev), Christoph Metzelder(Retired) Jurado(Loan to S.Moscow)

EUROPA LEAGUE PLACES:

VfB STUTTGART:

Manager: Bruno Labbadia.

Despite "The Reds" of German league football finishing 12th last season, their focus would be on an European spot this season. With Veteran German league coach Bruno Labbadia in charge, vfb Stuttgart would be looking to correct the wrongs of last season especially with them boasting the return of Brazilian-German born forward Cacau after being out on the sidelines. A position between fifth to seventh in the league is expected gingered by the array of good signings they've acquired.

Major Players In:

Daniel Schwaab(from Bayer Leverkrusen[Free Agent])
Moritz Leitner(Loan,Borussia Dortmund),Mohammed Abdellaoue(Hannover 96[€3.5m]),Konstantin Rausch(Hannover 96[Free Agent]).

Major Players Out:

Federico Macheda(Loan return to Man Utd), Marc Ziegler(retired),Shinji Okazaki(FSV Mainz),Felipe Lopes(Loan return,VFL Wolfsburg)

HAMBURG SV:

Manager: Thorsten Fink.

German club Hamburg would target a spot in Europe this season. Last season was not a pretty good one as "The Dinasour" finished seventh in the league; but with a rejuvenated side and German trainer Thorsten Fink,a place in Europe would be a perfect come back to being a top side in Germany. World class attacker in Rafael Van der Vaart, English defender Michael Mancienne, new signing on loan from Arsenal Johan Djourou would give them an opportunity to have a big challenge for European places in the league.

Major Players In:

Johan Djourou(Loan,Arsenal), Kerem Demirbay(from Borussia Dortmund[Free Agent]),Jacques Zoua(from Fc Basel[€1m])

Major Players Out:
Marcus Berg(to Panathinaikos),Son Heung-Min(Bayer Leverkrusen 04)

"LONG SHOT CLUB"

SC FREIBURG:

Manager: Christian Streich

Frei...what??? Yes, Sc Freiburg. Finishing in fifth position last season, the "Breisgau-Brasillianer" outfit are our club that would battle for the last Champions League Spot this season. Since the appointment of former German player Christian Streich as coach, its been a gradual improvement in the league standings for the city of Freiburg side. Their fifth spot finish last term has been their highest in the league in the club's history; which also was Streich's first full season in charge as manager of the club. Although they lost out on the last uefa Champions League spot to fc schalke 04, their intention to reach a higher spot in the league is clearly stated with the no. of decent signings they have been able to acquire, including french youngster Francis Coquelin on loan from Arsenal and home grown players in Christian Gunter, Mike Hanke (new signing) and Sebastian Freis.

Major Players In:

Gelson Fernandes(from Sporting Lisbon[€500,000]), Chris Jullien(from AJ Auxerre[Free Transfer]),Vaclav Pilar(Loan,Wolfsburg),Admir Mehmedi(loan,Dynamo Kyiev), Francoia Coquelin(Loan,Arsenal),Mike Hanke(Borussia Monchengladgach[Free Transfer])
