Carling Cup Review: Man City Serve Sweet Revenge,Defoe Tells AVB 'Pick Me'...Osaze's Goal Not Enough,as El-Nino Makes A Come Back Statement!

The Third Round of the League Cup #CapitalOneCup got under way yesterday night, this is the round the Big Boys Of the Premier League come out at Night to stand up tall among-st other English Playing football teams and ofcourse...Upsets are bound for the fans delight!

Here are detail's of major events;

Aston Villa 0-4 Tottenham

Rout: Jermain Defoe (above) and Paulinho (below) were amongst the scorers at Villa Park\

Jermain Defoe got his second brace of the season as Tottenham eased to a 4-0 victory, knocking out a Bentekeless Aston Villa out of the competition on their own turf.

Defoe – who had also netted twice in his last cup appearance for Spurs against Tromso – headed his side into the lead on the stroke of half-time after great work from German midfielder Lewis Holtby. Paulinho then  doubled Spurs' lead with a near-post flick four minutes after the break as substitute Nacer Chadli put icing on the cake with a powerful late finish.

Defoe wrapped up the night with his second and sixth goal of the season when he rounded Villa goalkeeper Jed Steer in stoppage time. Villas Boas should realise now that the English man is rearing to go, as even the most expensive club forward in north London- Soldado isn't in the same cloud the English man is chilling right now.

Man City 5-0 Wigan Athletic

Off the mark: Stevan Jovetic's goal was his first in Manchester City colours

Revenge they say is sweet when served cold, but i say its tongue-licking when served on a cold night.. Who can forget what Wigan did to Man City in that famous FA cup Final? They say motivation is key in football, and the Sky Blues dint lack any of that as they brutally dismantled the Latics 5-0 to banish the pain they felt in Wembley.

Edin Dzeko started the goal rain, then Montenegro forward Jovetic doubled City's lead in the second half before substitute Yaya Toure who has scored his third delightful free kick of the season made it three leaving time for Jovetic and Jesus Navas to add a fourth and fifth. So Karma is a what?

Swindon 0 Chelsea 2

Chelsea fielded a multi million pound second string team, if there's any space in the history books - that must be the most expensive second eleven in the history of football. Mata and Torres were brought back into the starting line up and both Spaniards combined well to hand the blues their first away win of the season.

Torres reacted well to slide home a rebound after Juan Mata's shot was well saved by Wes Foderingham. The former Liverpool man was visibly buoyed by his strike and just six minutes later he turned provider, bamboozling two defenders with a sublime drag back before slipping a slide-rule pass into Ramires who dinked a delightful finish over the keeper.

Fulham 2-1 Everton

Progress: Bent came off the bench to grab Fulham's winner at Craven Cottage

Roberto Martinez was finally welcomed into 2013/14 English football as Fulham came from behind to beat them 2-1; condemning them to their first defeat of the season.

Steven Naismith had giving the visitors the lead in the first half with them dominating the early proceedings, but Fulham had other plans as they progressed to the next stage of the competition thanks to goals after the break from Dimitar Berbatov and Aston Villa Loanee Darren Bent. The game would have gone into extra time if Seamus Coleman's great chance in the dying stages had gone in; but then saw his effort blocked by the legs of Fulham goalkeeper David Stockdale who was on top form as the hosts held on for victory.

Watford 2-3 Norwich City

Double: Hooper celebrates after scoring the goal which completes Norwich's comeback

Unless the 'fat lady' says so; a game isn't over till the final whistle is blown...and Norwich City's Gary Hooper scored a dramatic extra-time winner in his first Norwich start to give the Canaries a 3-2 League Cup victory at Watford.

Javier Acuna and Davide Faraoni goals had put the host's ahead and was almost enough to give Watford the win,but Norwich fought back to level through Josh Murphy and Hooper, before the former Celtic striker had the final say of the game.

But Hooper sent the tie into extra-time with an injury-time equaliser and produced a moment of class to beat Watford keeper Jonathan Bond in the 115th minute to seal the Premier League side's passage.

Westham 3-2 Cardiff

Shock: Cardiff equalised through goals from Craig Noone (above) and Peter Odemwingie (below)

Nigeria's Osaze's goal on his full debut wasn't enough to take Cardiff through to the next round of the league cup,as west Ham went through instead with Sam Allardyce marking his 100th game in charge of the Hammers with a 3-2 win over Cardiff City.

A goal after just 19 seconds from Ravel Morrison sent the Londoners on their way to victory over their Premier League rivals at Upton Park, Matt Jarvis who had a hand in the opener scored the second of the game  seven minutes later.

The Visitors pulled one back through Craig Noone with a wonder strike just prior to the break, before Peter Odemwingie looked to have sent the game to extra time with a 76th-minute equaliser.

However, with two minutes left the hosts snatched the win when Jack Collison produced a superb cross and Vaz Te applied the finish to shatter the hearts of the Welsh fans.

In other games, Austrian player Proschwitz seems to have gotten a good understanding of the English game as his goal was the difference between Hull City Tigers and Huddersfield, taking the KC Stadium Outfit to the next round.

Manager-less Sunderland were too much for visitors Peterborough United at the Stadium of Light with goals from italian winger Emmanuele Giaccherini and substitute Valentin Roberge gave them a pass to the next round of the capital one cup.
