Champions Swansea are Spanked Out,Chicharito Spoils Suarez Welcome Back Party,Monreal Sends Arsenal Through To Face Chelsea.

Birmingham 3-1 Swansea

Hugs all round: Birmingham's Dan Burn celebrates with his team-mates after scoring the opener

It was a case of Come back again next season for Cup holders Swansea who bowed out at the first hurdle of this season's edition of the competition as 2011 winners and Npower Championship side Birmingham City spanked them 3-1.

The hosts grabbed the lead early on in the second half thanks to a Dan Burn finish, two more goals from Matt Green and Nigerian born Briton Tom Adeyemi put the game to bed to the delight of the home crowd.

Wilfried Bony did score for the champions in injury time, but it was a case of too little, too late for the visitors as Birmingham held their own to progress to the next round.

Manchester United 1-0 Liverpool

Poacher: Javier Hernandez grabbed the only goal of the game as United triumphed over their bitter rivals

Luis Suarez's welcome back party at Old Trafford was gate crashed by Chicharito as the Mexican helped Man Utd to a narrow victory over long standing rivals Liverpool.

Suarez coming back from a ten game ban for his 'vampire act', was prominent in the entertaining cup tie but couldn't just  find the back of the net... Javier Hernandez who was also celebrating a comeback of his own,  finished from close range early in the second half, avenging the Red Devil's loss at Anfield earlier in the month and ultimately booking their passage into the fourth round.

Westbromich Albion 1-1 Arsenal (Aet) Penalties: 3-4

New look: The Denmark striker donned a beard and a David Beckham-esque haircut

Arsene Wenger's magic wand of not being knocked out at the third round of the #CapitalOneCup did showcase its potency again as Arsenal secured their place in the fourth round of the League Cup after a dramatic 4-3 penalty shoot-out victory over West Brom.

Both teams played one of the most boring 1st half football has ever witnessed; On a lighter note though, it was a sight to marvel at as the world's acclaimed best striker - Nicklas Bendtner or rather Bendticho  looking like a Japanese Samurai entertained us with his looks rather than skills. Arsenal got on the score sheet in the second half, thanks to a delightful pass from the Dane which found Tomas Eisfield who coolly slotted the ball home. The home side  found a way back into the match via a starlet of their own.Graham Dorrans’ corner somehow found its way to Saido Berahino who headed home to add to his hat-trick in the previous round against Newport.

The game proceeded to extra time and both sides endured a grueling 30 minutes of agonizing football and alas Penalties for the pain!!

Well misses from Craig Dawson and Morgan Amalfitano set the Gunners on their way into the round of 16 as Nacho Monreal smashed home the decisive spot-kick to secure the passage.

Newcastle 2-0 Leeds United

Scorers: Cisse (left) and Yoan Gouffran celebrate Toon's opener as they triumphed over Leeds

Papiss Cisse finally broke his Newcastle United scoring duck for the first time this season as they eased past championship outfit Leeds United 2-0 to progress through to the next round.

Cisse headed in to put Newcastle in front midway through the first half, before fellow francophone speaking team mate Yoan Gouffran wrapped things up with a fine curling strike after the break.

Although Leeds did refused to allow Newcastle to control the play of a game which had Newcastle's dominant display all over it, they would rue not taking their chances after being unfortunate not to have taken the lead when Matt Smith's point-blank header was well saved by Tim Krul.

Lastly, the draws have been made; and all we lovers of competitions have diary ticking fixtures to look forward to.
