Matthias Sammer

Matthias Sammer is 46 today. He is a retired German football player and coach who is now working as sport director of FC Bayern Munich. He played as a midfielder primarily as a central midfielder, and later in his career as a sweeper.


With Borussia Dortmund as a player, Sammer won the Bundesliga and DFL-Supercup in 1995, the Bundesliga, DFL-Supercup, and European Footballer of the Year in 1996, and the UEFA Champions League and Intercontinental Cup in 1997. With Germany as a player, Sammer won the UEFA Euro 1996. Sammer retired with 74 total caps, 23 for East Germany and 51 for the unified side.

With Borussia Dortmund as a manager, Sammer won the Bundesliga in 2002.

George Boateng

Joseba Etxeberria

Filippo Volandri

Filippo Volandri is 32 today. He is an Italian professional male tennis player. Volandri is a right-handed player who reached a career-high singles ranking of World No. 25 in July 2007. He turned pro in 1997, and has earned over $3,000,000 in prize money.

The lowest point of Volandri's career came in January 2009 when he received a 3-month ban from the ATP for a doping offence after testing positive for salbutamol during on 13 March 2008 at the Indian Wells tournament. Volandri did have a medical exemption from the International Tennis Federation to use salbutamol, an asthma medication, but the ITF deemed that his use of the drug was beyond therapeutic needs. His suspension was to last through 14 April 2009 and required him to forfeit all prize money and ranking points earned from the date of the failed test until the beginning of his suspension.

In March 2009 the Court of Arbitration for Sport overruled the ATP decision and ruled that Volandri should be reinstated and his forfeited ranking points and earnings returned to him. Volandri stated that he intends to sue the ATP over the incident.

Nuri Şahin

Nuri Şahin is 25 today. He is a footballer who plays as a midfielder for the German Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund on loan from Real Madrid and the Turkey national football team. Şahin began his career at Borussia Dortmund, spending six years there and winning the Bundesliga in 2011 – including a year-long loan at Feyenoord – before signing for Real Madrid in 2011 for €10 million. In August 2012, Şahin agreed to a one year loan deal with Liverpool, which was terminated in January 2013 to allow him to return to Dortmund on an 18-month loan.

Franco Zuculini

Franco Zuculini is 23 today. He is an Argentine footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for Italian giant club Internazionale. In January 2009 Zuculini was selected to join the Argentina under-20 squad for the 2009 South American Youth Championship in Venezuela.

Zuculini's was named by Argentina manager Diego Maradona in a squad of 14 local players called into a training camp for the Argentina National Team. He made his senior international debut against Panama, on 20 May 2009.
