Liverpool’s impressive start to the Barclays Premier League season has been recognised with a double award for the club’s striker Daniel Sturridge and manager Brendan Rodgers, who have received the Barclays Player of the Month award and the Barclays Manager of the Month award for August respectively.
After joining Liverpool from Chelsea last January Sturridge scored 10 goals in 14 top-flight appearances and the England international started the new campaign where he left off the last by scoring in both of his side’s 1-0 victories in August against Stoke City and Aston Villa to secure the accolade for the first time in his career.
Liverpool’s two victories earned Rodgers his award for a second time in his managerial career, the first coming when he was in charge of Swansea City in January 2012. The Northern Irishman is hoping to maintain his side’s perfect start to the campaign with a fourth Barclays Premier League victory out of four against the Swans on Monday night.
