Frank Ribery Sends Strong Message To Cristiano Ronaldo Concerning The FIFA Ballon d'Or Award

Attention seeking: Ronaldo is never one to stray from the limelight

Cristiano Ronaldo on most of us books will be crowned the 2013 world player of the year, I now refer to him as the FIFA world player of the year elect!. The Portuguese ace is just all about goals, he's scored a whooping 67 goals since the turn of the year and when Portugal needed something extra to get to next year's worldcup, Ronaldo stepped up as he delivered a quartet of goals to send his country to Brazil.

To be realistic, if the Madrid star wants to win his second Ballon d'or award, he has to go through Frank Ribery and the French man says football is not all about goals, that his ability to 'set defences on fire' is enough to help him beat CR7 to the most prestigious individual award in world football.

Best in the world? Ribery helped France turn around their World Cup qualifier against Ukraine last week

'I have no fear, I am confident. I have done all I had to,' Ribery told Le Monde.

'If you look at my performances all year long, I have made the difference. I may not score in every match but I set the defences on fire,' he said.

'So far this year, I have never failed. I have been good during the whole year with my national team and my club. What we did with Bayern last season was historic,' said Ribery, who also helped France to qualify for next year’s World Cup.

Asked if he feared competition from 2008 winner Ronaldo, Ribery said: 'Not at all, honestly.

'Ronaldo certainly scores goals, but I do too. He certainly scores more than I do, but we don’t have the same style.'
