English Premier League Set To Honour Mandela In Style, As Ronaldo, Robin Van Persie, Wilshere Pay Tribute To The Fallen Soldier


Sporting connection: Mandela helped South Africa win the hosting rights to the 2010 World Cup

Yesterday, the world said goodbye to a man who is highly regarded as the most influential African ever, as former president of South Africa Nelson Mandela breathed his last. As a form of respect, The English Premier League have concluded plans to pay tribute to the fallen soldier as there will be a minute's applause ahead of all of this weekend's Premier League fixtures.

Football League chief executive, Shaun Harvey, said: 'Nelson Mandela was an inspiration to millions and his determination, courage and forgiveness marked him out as a truly great man. We are delighted to give clubs and their supporters the opportunity to pay their own tributes to Nelson Mandela and recognise his extraordinary legacy.'

Most of the players who will be involved in the weekend fixtures took to twitter to pay their condolences to Rolihlahla;

'I feel blessed to have lived during his life span and privileged to have met him on a number of occasions.
