The FIA tribunal has come to a close in Paris today with Mercedes being “reprimanded” and banned from the young driver test.
Pirelli have also received a reprimand.
The FIA said that Mercedes has been found guilty for a breach of regulations and as a punishment will miss the 3 day young driver test.
Throughout the tribunal Mercedes argued that it was Pirelli carrying out the test and that they decided the terms and structure, it was inevitable that they would gain some data from the test but all data has been stored securely away.
It was Mercedes legal team who put forward that if found guilty Mercedes should receive a band form the young driver test.
“[The young driver test] is a three-day test, and it is a car test over which teams have full control and teams know everything about the tyres and cars.
“If we are in this territory then it is open to the International Tribunal to impose exclusions from events that are under FIA jurisdiction, and the young driver test is that.”
The verdict in full:
‘On 5 June 2013, further to protests lodged during the 2013 Monaco GP by Red Bull Racing and Ferrari Scuderia Team against cars n°9 and 10 (Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team) for having conducted with Pirelli a three day tyre testing using a 2013 car on 15, 16 and 17 May in Barcelona, the President of the FIA, acting as the FIA Prosecuting Body, sent to the President of the International Tribunal a notification of charges against Pirelli and a notification of charges against Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team.
