According to an ESPN poll, the Miami Heat forward has unseated the Los Angeles Lakers star for the first time in four years.
Nearly 13 percent (12.9) of NBA fans said James was their favorite player this season, allowing him to best Kobe Bryant (12.5) for the first time since the 2008-09 season. That was the only other season when James passed the Los Angeles Lakers star, the top pick by fans for five of six years from 2006-07 to 2011-12.
James had been the most popular player until "The Decision," when he announced he would leave Cleveland and be "taking my talents to South Beach."
Two NBA championships and a couple of Finals MVP awards have changed fans' perceptions, although casual followers still don't like him as much as when he was with the Cavaliers, according to the poll.
Rounding out the top five in the poll are: Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose and Dwyane Wade.
If I have my way, Kevin Durrant will be right on top of the list.. LeBron James and Kobe Bryant have been the faces of the NBA for the past decade. But in as much as they are loved by their fans, they are also hated by as many antagonists. As for Durrant, whether you are part of the Oklahoma City Thunder movement or not, you cant hate but love him.
So It is time for KB and LBJ to make room at the top. KD is set to be the shining light .
