TRANSFER BATTLES: Rooney, Adebayor, Thiago Silva, Vidal, Osaze, Deulofeu, Bent, Thiago Alcantarra

Unsettled: But Catalan giants Barcelona want Wayne Rooney to add to their firepower up front

David Moyes has revealed that he has met up with unsettled striker Wayne Rooney 'three or four times' since becoming manager of Manchester United.

Although he didn't confirm if the striker has expressed a desire to remain at Old Trafford, but the former Everton boss has reiterated that Rooney will not be allowed to leave the club.

New manager: David Moyes is aiming to stamp his mark on United after taking over from Sir Alex Ferguson

Moyes said on talkSPORT: ‘The club has already stated that Wayne is staying and is not for sale. I have met Wayne two, three, four times and he’s here every day. I have of course met him long before on many occasions.

'There has been a lot said about Wayne and myself over the years but we have a really good relationship. I have got him back to Goodison Park several times over the last few years.

‘Wayne came up to my house and I came up to his house to meet him and have a chat. He is training great. The team here are telling me that it’s the best shape they’ve seen him in for five years so I am taking it as a positive.

'We have stated he is not for sale and I am going to try to get the best Wayne Rooney that I possibly can.'

Besiktas say they have agreed to match Emmanuel Adebayor’s wage demands but the Tottenham striker has reservations as the club will not be competing in Europe next season.

The Turkish side finished third in the Super Lig last season but will not compete in the Europa League after being handed a one-year ban from UEFA competitions over match-fixing allegations.

Adebayor only scored five Premier League goals in 25 appearances for Spurs last season but it has not put off Besiktas manager Slaven Bilic who recently admitted his interest in the Togolese international.

Bilic told Lig TV: 'Adebayor is a very talented player, anyone would like him to be a part of their squad.'

Perfect: Thiago Silva expertly dispossesses Lionel Messi in the Paris Saint-German penalty area

Barcelona have reached a "tentative" contract agreement with Paris Saint-Germain's Brazil international defender Thiago Silva, according to Spanish newspaper Sport. Silva, 28, joined PSG from AC Milan last summer in a deal worth €42 million. He made 22 league appearances for the French champions last season.

According to the Football EspaƱa report, Silva would sign a five-year deal and earn a salary similar to that of Xavi and Andres Iniesta.

Silva captained Brazil to the FIFA Confederations Cup title last month.

Lethal: Edinson Cavani netted two goals against Italy in Uruguay's Confederations Cup play-off

Napoli's Uruguay international striker Edinson Cavani is expected to sign for Paris Saint-Germain "in a matter of hours,". Cavani, 26, led Serie A with 29 goals in 34 appearances last season. Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City have also shown interest.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal has denied he has signed a contract extension with the club.

Vidal, a 26-year-old Chile international, joined Juventus from Bayer Leverkusen in 2011. He scored 10 goals in 31 Serie A appearances last season.

According to Sky Sports, Vidal has been linked with Manchester United, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

“There has been no renewal but I do have a contract at the club so let’s see what happens,” Vidal said.

Peter Odemwingie moved a step closer towards a transfer to Crystal Palace after he was forced to train with West Bromwich Albion's academy trainees.

The Nigeria striker remains embroiled in a dispute with the club following an abortive switch to QPR seven months ago.

Odemwingie returned to the Baggies this week following his summer break.

The 31-year-old attended a friend's wedding and was given extra time off by West Brom's head coach Steve Clarke.

But when he did pitch up at the club's training ground yesterday he found himself working alongside two 15-year-olds with one of the Baggies' physios as the rest of the first-team undertook their own session.

Roberto Martinez hailed the arrival of Gerard Deulofeu and described the exciting Spanish forward as a 'real diamond'.

Martinez, who is currently in Austria with Everton on a pre-season training camp, has been busy reshaping things since taking over from David Moyes and believes the capture of the Barcelona starlet represents quite a coup for the club as he had been monitored by a number of Europe's top sides.

'Gerard is a real diamond of Spanish football and a boy with incredible footballing talent and I am delighted that he has chosen to take the next step of his career with Everton,' said Martinez.

'He is a young man with a lot of potential to be a real star and the Everton family is the perfect environment for him to progress.

'The warmth, patience and understanding of Goodison Park is exactly what he needs to carry on fulfilling his potential.

'The experience that we have in our dressing room will help him in his development and he will bring a completely different penetrating approach to our group.

'We understand a lot of other top clubs around Europe were interested in Gerard so it is fantastic he has joined us.'

Wolfsburg are showing interest in Aston Villa striker and Newcastle target Darren Bent.

Villa boss Paul Lambert is still keen to sell Bent, despite first-choice striker Christian Benteke's desire to leave the club.

And Newcastle manager Alan Pardew remains keen to be reunited with Bent, having worked alongside him at Charlton.

Wolfsburg, however, are ready to tempt offer Bent the chance to revitalise his career in the Bundesliga.

Despite playing Champions League football in recent years, Wolfsburg finished 11th last season and see Bent as one who can provide the goals to send them back into the top half.

Manchester United are set to lose out in the race for Thiago Alcantara with the Barcelona midfielder poised to join former manager Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich.
It had been thought the Spaniard had opted to join United after deciding his hopes of securing a place at next year's World Cup were best served away from the Nou Camp.

However, it is being reported in his homeland that Thiago has instead decided to join the Champions League winners.

Guardiola said this week: 'People have to know that Barca players are not leaving for money or desire.

There are two possibilities: they dump you or you feel like you should be playing and Barcelona do not.'
If confirmed the news will be a blow to new United manager David Moyes, who had hoped to use Thaigo to bolster a midfield lacking the retired Paul Scholes and for whom the futures of Darren Fletcher and Anderson in particular are uncertain.

The news follows Spain's World Cup winning manager Vicente Del Bosque urging Alcantara to resist the advances of United and await the opportunities that will inevitably come his way at Barcelona.
