A Muslim referee in Senegal stops a game mid-match to break his Ramadan fast

Bizarre footage was spotted in Senegal at the start of the month as a referee halted a game mid-match to break his Ramadan fast.

After 30 minutes of the match between Casa Sport and Yeggo, referee Ousseynou Gueye brought a temporary halt to proceedings so that he could eat a snack and have a drink on the sidelines.

Despite being heckled from fans pissed about the stoppage in the game, ref Gueye refused to stop his snack break of dates and water, later telling reporters:

'Legally, it is not possible to stop a match to break the fast. But you can enjoy a break in the game to meet a health need. The human body needs water.'
