SON OF SPORTING DIRECTOR OF TAYE TAIWO's FORMER CLUB SHOT DEAD

Scene of shooting in Marseille on 5 September 2013

The son of the sports director of one of Nigeria's Taye Taiwo's former club Olympique de Marseille was gunned down in a suspected gangland killing yesterday.

30 year old Adrien Anigo was killed after being shot as he was getting out of his car in a rough neighbourhood of Marseille.

This is believed to be one of 15 similar killings in the southern city of France this year.

Jose Anigo is a well-known figure in French football management with the likes of the Ayew brothers also passing under his tutelage; as a result, the killing of his son has made headline news around France.

Police in Marseille have said Adrien Anigo was shot at point blank range,at least once in the head,in a northern suburb of Marseille at around 16:00 (14:00 GMT) on thursday. The gunmen fled the scene on motorbikes and are still unidentified.

The younger Mr Anigo had been in custody in the past, accused of taking part in a series of armed robberies, but had been released.

It's been reported also that many of the street killings around Marseille this year have been linked to drug trafficking.

We at Sportunes send our heart felt condolence to the Anigo family, Marseille family and the entire French kingdom as the Les Blues will be taking part in a World cup qualifier this weekend against Georgia...Il est bien.
