The San Antonio Spurs have unveiled a new camouflage uniform for the upcoming season.
The green, olive, and sand-colored uniforms will be worn twice during the season, including November 13 against the Wizards.
According to the Spurs, more than 300,000 active and retired military and government workers live in San Antonio and the uniforms are designed in recognition of the city's strong military ties.
Here's the press release:
'The San Antonio Spurs unveiled today a new military-inspired uniform in honor of the servicemen and women of the Armed Forces. The Spurs will debut the new uniforms when they host the Washington Wizards on Wednesday, Nov. 13. The Spurs created the camouflage-patterned uniforms to honor and showcase the team's pride in the city affectionately nicknamed “Military City U.S.A.” San Antonio is home to Joint Base San Antonio, a military installation that includes the Army's Fort Sam Houston, Randolph Air Force Base and Lackland Air Force Base. It is estimated that more than 300,000 active and retired military and government workers call San Antonio home.
“Playing in San Antonio, we're constantly reminded of the selflessness and courage of those that serve,” said Spurs guard Danny Green. “We owe them a debt of gratitude and it is an honor to recognize and show support to all active and retired military members.”
The military uniforms are part of the adidas and NBA Pride Uniform Collection, inspired by each team's core identity, history and/or region. The green, olive and sand-colored camouflage jerseys feature the iconic Spurs alternate logo prominently on the front with black and silver vertical stripes on the sides. The stripes continue on the shorts and are also branded with the Spurs alternate logo. The Spurs will wear the military uniforms twice during the 2013-14 season.
The game against the Wizards is the first of multiple USAA Salute Night games during the season in which USAA is offering up to a 40 percent discount on tickets to active military and veterans. For more information on USAA Salute Nights or to purchase tickets, visit Spurs.com/salute. Attending fans will have an opportunity to bid on the game-worn camouflage jerseys in a post-game auction. Proceeds will benefit Silver & Black Give Back youth programs. For more information on the post-game jersey auction, please visit SBGB.org.
The Spurs will sport the military uniforms for the second time on Military Appreciation Night, presented by USAA, on Friday, Feb. 28, when the Spurs host the Charlotte Bobcats. For more info on military nights and military discounts go to Spurs.com/salute or visit the ITT office on base.'
