Manchester United Team Narrowly Escape Plane Crash

Safe and sound: Jonny Evans, Anderson and Ryan Giggs at Manchester Airport before the flight

That awkward moment when you are in the plane and the pilot tells you, there's been a problem.. Whether you are Aerophobic or not, your heart will immediately dislocate to your mouth. Such was the feeling among the Manchester United camp when their plane had to abort its landing at Cologne airport in Germany.

United’s chartered plane was just 400 metres from touching down at Cologne airport when the pilot reacted rapidly after realising another aircraft was already on the runway.

As the Barclays Premier League club’s players were thrown back in their seats, the Monarch aircraft had to regain height quickly to avoid any chance of a collision.

The whole United squad, including players, manager David Moyes, and all the backroom staff, were all on board... And for a moment one must have been thinking if this was 1958 all over again when the Red Devils lost 21 of their staffs in the infamous Munich air disaster... but thanks to the bravery of the pilot, all dangers were averted .

Rio Ferdinand whose heart was still in his mouth tweeted after the roller-coaster ride;

Another passenger called the experience 'frightening'.
