HELLAS VERONA 2-1 AC MILAN

TOUGH BLOW

Newly promoted Hellas Verona got their Serie A campaign off to a winning start with a 2-1 victory at home to Milan. Andrea Poli struck first for the visitors, but two outstanding headers either side of half-time from 36-year-old Luca Toni proved the difference for Verona.

SAMPDORIA 0-1 JUVENTUS

FIRST TOUCH

Summer signing Carlos Tevez got his first Serie A goal as champions kicked off their title defence with a 1-0 win at Sampdoria. The former Manchester City striker found the net just before the hour mark to give the Biaconneris all three points at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

NAPOLI 3-0 BOLOGNA

DOUBLE TROUBLE

Coach Rafael Benitez sent a message to fellow title contenders with an emphatic 3 - 0 victory over Bologna. Marek Hamsik scored in either side of half after Jose Callejon's debut goal had put the Azurris ahead.

Inter Milan 2 - 0 Genoa

STRONG START

Inter Milan made sure all hiccups of last season dint follow them into the new campaign as they defeated Genoa 2 - 0 in the Giussepe Mehazza. With two goals in the final 15 minutes from Yuto Nagatomo and Rodrigo Palacio, new coach Walter Mazzari had a dream start to life with the Nerazurris.

Torino also cruised to a 2 - 0 home win over Sassuolo. Goals from former Roma player Matteo Brighi and Alessio Cerci condemned the newly promoted club to their first ever defeat in the history of the Serie A.

Roma also ran out 2-0 winners as two goals midway through the second half from Daniele De Rossi and Alessandro Florenzi handed them victory away at Livorno, giving new boss and french tactician Rudi Garcia a desired first win as coach.

Elsewhere, Roma's city rivals Lazio edged out a scrappy win as they beat Udinese 2-1.

Hernanes opened the scoring for the hosts after 13 minutes and Antonio Candreva doubled that advantage from the spot three minutes later. Substitute Luis Muriel's goal on the hour was not enough for Udinese to claim anything from the game.

Cagliari came from behind at home to Atalanta to snatch a 2-1 victory. Guglielmo Stendardo struck first for the visitors after 27 minutes but that lead was cancelled out within a minute by Radja Nainggolan. Matias Cabrera hit the winner after 63 minutes to hand all three points to the Rossoblus.
Parma and Cheivo Verona played out a goalless draw in a low key start to the campaign for both teams.
